I started off my research by watching ted talks of victims speak about their exploitation. There was a common thread highlighted by many of them; society thinks of human trafficking as a very remote and outlying subject. Images of hands being tied and mouths being shut are associated with the word ‘human trafficking’, whereas in reality, victims are people just like you and me. They are in houses you walk by or in stores you buy your clothes from. Survivors are socially excluded and labelled which forces them to relapse.

Credit: Wade Hudson is a talented Jamaican-born, Toronto-based photographer. Renowned for his striking work across portraiture, beauty and lifestyle, highlighting the best sides of everyday people. His projects named, Jamaica and Pickney (children) are used in the posters.

This work depicts children, women, and men locked in bird cages with barcodes. There is a strong contrast between the size of a birdcage and the size of a person in real life. The author combines the two to express the torture suffered by the trafficked person. And there are data that point out that the proportion of trafficking in children has shown an incredible upward trend in the past two years, so the children’s bodies are drawn to the maximum.

Every person has the right to a peaceful life. Unfortunately, the number of people who do not have the means to hold on to life in different geographies of the world, who have to go to other countries illegally, either of their own will or by force, is increasing. According to the United Nations report published in 2020, 50% of human trafficking is sexual exploitation. 67% of this rate is women and 25% is little girls. In addition, these migrations made by illegal methods are carried out in disregard of human life. In this poster work, it is expressed that human life is packaged like an inanimate object and abducted by non-humane methods and is supported with the slogan “Human life doesn’t fit in the box”.
