The only thing that comes to my mind when I come across the term “human trafficking”, is the heartbreaking tragedy of modern slavery. Just imagining the innocent children in evil hands like puppets shrinks my heart and I wanted to demonstrate how ugly this obnoxious act can be. STOP IT PLEASE!
With the stop gesture as the main visual symbol, it represents a positive stop/prohibition/prevent symbol,
The thumbs up pistol represents possible images of violence/threat.
The images of children asking for help between their fingers are like victims who have lost their freedom.
We live in a crazy world,
Hands can help or harm others, all within a single thought.
Stop all bad thoughts,
Stop human trafficking.
The world, the connection, the music, the darkness
I love music and reggae. It’s important to me to help people. Every year tens of thousands of people disappear without a trace in the world. More than ten thousand people are kidnapped in the world every year. The song encourages all of us to be careful about who we trust. I made this poster while listening to the song. I think visual art and music are powerful together. We can save one more child or one more person from harm.
It is both shocking and overwhelming that we are still facing human trafficking today. Even the most modern technologies cannot eradicate human lust. It is important to remember that the human being is not only the body but also the soul. We are not a thing whose value can be quantified and “blocked” as a commodity. Therefore, I decided to display a vulnerable human body placed in cash register drawer. Man is not a currency.
In a place where people are trafficked, it also means that gender is full of inequality. With this scale, boys’ leather shoes and girls’ high heels are put on the girl’s side, and the word on the girl’s side means that women in this society are still incomplete. Sitting on an equal footing with men.
Be careful, trust, and be colorful
I found that human trafficking is mostly engaged in the sex trade. It uses a variety of different men’s appearances, combined with women’s legs, which implies that women are forced to sell sex and serve 30 different men on average a week.
With this poster, I intend to alert people to the “human trafficking” theme that may be a little forgotten in people’s heads. With my poster I intend to send a simple and clear message. According to the figure at the bottom of the poster, I intend to show a little the loneliness that a person may feel in a situation like this. The person is face down, with the hands around the legs. She is completely alone sitting on the floor. I used the negative space and the positive space to give contrast. I used only a few guidelines in some parts of the person’s body to give some volume, but in general the person is very simplified. At the top of the poster I put the title of the theme “STOP HUMAN TRAFFICKING” with a simple and legible typography. I used the capital letter for this title because it is undoubtedly the theme of this poster. A little further down I put a sentence. My initial objective of this sentence was that it was something simple that called attention and for that I used the rhyme. With this phrase I mean that this theme is not a story, much less a fairy tale, never to let someone take our value, (glory) nor shape our destiny. With this sentence I intend to appeal to people to never be discouraged by someone else’s comment, to never give more than what we are, not to let other people take advantage of our value and to never stop being who we are because from someone else and letting them “rule” our destiny. I always tried to be very simple during the construction of this last phase of the project to show that simplicity has its value and that a simple thing is much better captured than something very elaborate.
