The 29th Art of Reggae Exhibition features the top 100 entries from the 2022 International Reggae Poster Contest. The contest was founded in 2011 by Jamaican graphic designer Michael Thompson (1958-2016) and Maria Papaefstathiou, a graphic designer from Athens, Greece. It is currently organised by Papaefstathiou and the contest’s board member Carolyn Cooper, a writer and consultant on culture and development. The 2022 run of the contest marked its 10 year anniversary with 1180 entries, from 653 artists and 53 countries under the theme Women in Reggae.

The Alpha Institute has been training youth in music performance for over 130 years. Today Alpha offers an Associate Degree in Music Performance for young men and women across Jamaica in addition to its internationally recognized music trade training for at-risk young men. The newly renovated music performance and technology facilities at its 26 South Camp Road campus provides a strong foundation for young musicians, deejays and producers interested in making music and entertainment their career. Thanks to its relationship with the International Reggae Poster Contest, the developments at Alpha include inspiring visual works that pay homage to Alpha and Jamaica’s music legacy, and also its future.

With the support of the National Gallery of Jamaica, the International Reggae Poster Contest organisers and artists as well as poster fans, ensuring access to youth music education is looking even brighter.
